Sumo

Sumo is a traditional Japanese form of wrestling that involves two fighters, known as rikishi, who compete in a circular ring called a dohyo. The primary objective in sumo is to force the opponent out of the ring or to make any part of their body other than the soles of their feet touch the ground. Sumo has deep historical and cultural significance in Japan, encompassing ritual elements and a set of strict rules and traditions. Competitions are held in tournaments, where wrestlers are ranked based on their performance. Sumo is characterized by its unique techniques, such as throws, shoves, and body locks, as well as its distinctive attire, including the mawashi, a traditional belt worn by the wrestlers. The sport is governed by various associations, and those who reach high ranks, like yokozuna, hold prestigious status in Japanese society.
