Soccer

Soccer, known as football in most countries outside North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, which is typically grass or artificial turf. Players, except for the goalkeeper, are not allowed to use their hands or arms to control the ball during play, with the exception of throw-ins, where the ball is thrown back into play from the sideline. The game is played in two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with a brief halftime interval.

Soccer is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). It is one of the most popular sports globally, with millions of fans and players around the world, and is organized at various levels, from local amateur clubs to professional leagues and international competitions such as the FIFA World Cup. The sport emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and individual skill, making it both a physically demanding and widely enjoyed activity.
